ViRDI Software: UNIS, UBio Alpeta and Which One You Need

Concept illustration of access management software with user records, door controls and a biometric terminal.

What ViRDI Software Does

ViRDI software is the server side of a ViRDI or UBio installation. The terminal on the wall reads a fingerprint, face, iris, card or phone, and the software stores the users, sets who can open which door and when, and keeps every event log in one place. Union Biometrics, the maker of ViRDI, UBio and NITGEN devices, offers two main platforms: UNIS for the ViRDI AC series and UBio Alpeta for the UBio-X range.

This guide explains what each platform does, which terminals on ubio.ae run on which one, and how to choose. Terminal figures are the manufacturer specifications listed on the ubio.ae product pages.

Which Terminal Uses Which Software

The server software is set by the terminal family, so the choice of hardware decides the platform.

Terminal Type Server software
ViRDI AC-2000 Fingerprint and card, IP65 UNIS
ViRDI AC-2100 PLUS Fingerprint and card, IP65 UNIS
ViRDI AC-2200 IP65 Fingerprint and card, camera, IP65 UNIS
ViRDI AC-5100 Fingerprint and card, camera UNIS
ViRDI AC-1200 Card and Bluetooth mobile key UNIS
ViRDI AC-1100 Card, camera, VoIP door phone UNIS
UBio-X Slim Fingerprint and card UBio Alpeta
UBio-X Pro Face and fingerprint UBio Alpeta
UBio-X Pro Lite Face and fingerprint UBio Alpeta
UBio-X Face Premium Walk-through face, fingerprint, QR UBio Alpeta
NITGEN eNBioAccess-T1 Fingerprint and card, outdoor AccessManager Pro

Mixing families on one site is common, for example ViRDI AC terminals on outdoor gates and UBio-X face terminals in the lobby. In that case each family is managed from its own platform.

UNIS for ViRDI AC Terminals

UNIS is the integrated management software for ViRDI AC terminals. It covers access control, time and attendance, and meal management, and it runs on an IP network, so many terminals can be managed at the same time from one server.

  • Terminal management: register terminals, assign administrators, change terminal settings and control terminals and doors remotely.
  • User management: employees and visitors are managed separately, with authority levels for users and administrators.
  • Real-time monitoring: live events, site monitoring and an e-Map that shows each terminal’s location and error status, with a pop-up alert per error.
  • Door rules: time zones, anti-passback and automatic email alarms.
  • Log management: access history for a set period, change history and terminal event history.
  • Attendance data: work types, shift rotations, extra hours and weekly or monthly reports.
  • Integration: links with ERP and groupware systems.

Staff can check UNIS from a phone through the i-UNIS mobile app. A browser version, Web UNIS, needs no client program, supports mobile devices and does not limit the number of administrators.

UBio Alpeta for UBio-X Terminals

UBio Alpeta is the web-based integrated security platform for the UBio-X range. One Alpeta server manages users, terminals, access logs, time and attendance, meal records and visitors.

  • Access control: users, access rights and authentication and event logs for every UBio-X door.
  • Time and attendance and meals: attendance and meal results come from the same terminals and the same user list.
  • Visitors: visitor records and details sit alongside staff records.
  • Mobile app: the UBio Alpeta app for iOS and Android lets administrators look up users, terminals, logs, attendance, meals and visitors from a phone.

UBio-X terminals connect to Alpeta over TCP/IP. The UBio-X Slim and UBio-X Face Pro also accept mobile access cards on NFC phones, secured with AES-256 encryption and Azure Key Vault on an on-premise or cloud server. The UBio-X Face Premium can enrol a user from a photo taken on a smartphone.

AccessManager Pro for NITGEN eNBioAccess-T1

The NITGEN eNBioAccess-T1 is an outdoor fingerprint and card terminal that runs on AccessManager ProIt stores 20,000 fingerprint templates for 1:1 and 1:N matching and 100,000 logs, and it connects over TCP/IP, Wiegand IN and OUT and RS-485 with OSDP.

How Terminals Connect to the Software

Every terminal reports to its server over TCP/IP. The other connections link the terminal to door hardware and third-party systems.

Connection ViRDI AC series UBio-X range
Server link TCP/IP TCP/IP
Wiegand IN and OUT IN and OUT
RS-485 OSDP O
Wi-Fi Optional on AC-1100 and AC-1200 O
Mobile credential Bluetooth on AC-1100, AC-1200, AC-2000, AC-2200 IP65, AC-5100 NFC and BLE on UBio-X Slim and UBio-X Face Pro

Wiegand output lets a terminal pass a verified ID to a third-party access controller. The ViRDI VS-R20D secondary card reader connects over OSDP RS-485 or Wiegand for the exit side of a door.
