What ViRDI Access Control Covers
ViRDI access control is the door security range from Union Biometrics. It covers fingerprint and card terminals, card terminals with a Bluetooth mobile key, the UBio-X face, iris and fingerprint terminals, and secondary card readers for the other side of a door. Each terminal confirms who is at the door before it releases the lock, and every event is logged for review.
This guide explains how a ViRDI door is set up, which models suit outdoor gates, indoor offices, card-only doors and high-security rooms, and which server software manages them. All figures are manufacturer specifications from the product pages on ubio.ae.
How a ViRDI Access Control Door Works
A ViRDI door has three parts that work together.
- Terminal: the unit at the entry reads a fingerprint, face, iris, card or phone and decides whether the person is enrolled.
- Door wiring: AC series terminals link to access controllers and extra readers through Wiegand IN and OUT and RS-485 with OSDP, the Open Supervised Device Protocol. UBio-X terminals offer RS-485 and Wiegand IN and OUT.
- Server software: terminals connect over TCP/IP to UNIS or UBio Alpeta, where users, access rights and event logs are managed.
For doors that need a reader on the exit side, the ViRDI VS-R20D is a secondary card reader built to work with ViRDI access terminals. It is rated IP65, reads 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz cards including MIFARE and DESFire, and connects over OSDP RS-485 or Wiegand.
Outdoor Gates and Harsh Sites
Gates, car parks, warehouses and construction sites need a sealed enclosure. Four ViRDI fingerprint and card terminals carry an IP65 dust and water rating, and all of them include Live Finger Detection.
| Model | Rating | Users | Logs | Extras |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AC-2000 | IP65 | 10,000 | 51,000 | Bluetooth mobile key |
| AC-2100 PLUS | IP65 | 10,000 | 100,000 | 1.77-inch colour LCD |
| AC-2200 IP65 | IP65 | 10,000 | 100,000 | Camera, Bluetooth |
| AC-5000 IK | IP65, IK09 | 20,000 | 64,000 | 2.8-inch LCD, keypad |
The AC-5000 IK adds an IK09 vandal-proof housing for unattended doors. The AC-2200 IP65 stores up to 10,000 image logs from its built-in camera, so every entry has a picture. The AC-2000 and AC-2100 PLUS cover standard outdoor doors. All four operate from −20 to 60 °C.
Indoor Fingerprint and Card Doors
Office floors, reception areas and bank branches usually need a fingerprint and card terminal that looks good on the wall. The UBio-X Slim is 23.5 mm deep at the top, has a 5-inch colour touchscreen and stores 500,000 card users and 100,000 fingerprint users. It also accepts phones over NFC and BLE. It has no dust or water rating, so it belongs indoors.
The ViRDI AC-5100 pairs fingerprint and card with a 2.8-inch colour LCD, a keypad, an embedded camera and a Bluetooth mobile card. It holds 20,000 card users, 15,000 fingerprint users for 1:N matching and 17,000 image logs.
Card and Mobile Key Doors
Some doors only need a card or a phone, such as meeting rooms, stores and internal corridors. ViRDI makes two card terminals for these doors.
- AC-1200: multi-smart card terminal with a Bluetooth mobile key and a 4-inch colour touch LCD, storing up to 200,000 card users and 1,000,000 logs. See the AC-1200 page for full specifications.
- AC-1100: the same card platform with a built-in camera for 15,000 image logs and a VoIP door phone, so visitors can call from the door. See the AC-1100 page for full specifications.
Both read 125 kHz EM, HID Prox and 13.56 MHz cards and connect to UNIS.
Face and Iris Doors
Contactless terminals suit busy lobbies, clinics and doors where touching a sensor is not practical. The UBio-X range covers face and iris recognition.
| Model | Methods | Recognition distance | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| UBio-X Face Pro | Face, fingerprint, card, NFC, BLE, QR | 0.5 to 2 m | IP55 (IP65 optional), IK06 |
| UBio-X Face Premium | Face, fingerprint, card, QR, mobile, PIN | 0.5 to 4 m | IP55 (IP65 optional), IK06 |
| UBio-X Pro 2 | Face, fingerprint, card | Up to 3 m | Not listed |
| UBio-X Iris | Iris, fingerprint, card | Up to 50 cm | Not rated |
The UBio-X Face Premium recognises people as they walk through, so queues do not build up at peak hours. The UBio-X Face Pro has two relay ports on board and holds 30,000 faces for 1:N matching. The UBio-X Iris reads the iris through glasses, a mask, a niqab or a hijab, which suits hospitals and high-security areas. For a deeper look at the technology, read the face recognition system guide.
Stopping Shared Cards and Fake Fingers
A card or PIN can be lent to someone else. A biometric check ties each entry to the person who is enrolled. ViRDI adds several layers on top of that.
- Live Finger Detection: ViRDI fingerprint terminals such as the AC-2000, AC-2100 PLUS, AC-2200 IP65, AC-5000 IK and AC-5100 reject fake prints made from gelatin, rubber, silicone and paper. UBio-X fingerprint sensors also include Live Finger Detection.
- Face liveness detection: UBio-X face terminals include anti-spoofing, and the UBio-X Pro 2 blocks attempts with a 3D mask, photo or cut-out photo.
- Two-factor entry: the UBio-X Face Premium can use face recognition at the main entrance and fingerprint plus face for server rooms and restricted zones.
- Image logs: camera models such as the AC-2200 IP65, AC-5100, AC-1100 and UBio-X Slim store a picture with each event.
For fingerprint models such as the AC-2000, AC-5000 IK and UBio-X Slim, Union Biometrics quotes a false rejection rate of 0.1% and a false acceptance rate of 0.0001%.
UNIS and UBio Alpeta Software
ViRDI terminals are managed from server software, not one door at a time.
- UNIS: the server software for the AC series, including the AC-1100, AC-1200, AC-2000, AC-2100 PLUS, AC-2200 IP65 and AC-5100.
- UBio Alpeta: the server software for UBio-X terminals such as the UBio-X Slim, UBio-X Pro and UBio-X Face Premium.
The UBio-X Face Pro supports an on-premise or cloud server, and its mobile access is secured with AES-256 encryption and Azure Key Vault. The same applies to mobile cards on the UBio-X Slim.
